Banks make it hard. We don’t.
As a tradie, you know your business is profitable. The jobs are coming in, you’re paying your bills, and you need a reliable ute or van to keep working. But when you walk into a bank and tell them you’re self-employed, suddenly you need two years of tax returns, a profit and loss statement, and three weeks of their time.
CarFund does it differently. We’re a specialist broker — we only work with self-employed borrowers, and we’ve been arranging car and vehicle finance for tradespeople for over 20 years. For loans under $150,000, we don’t need your tax returns. For most tradie car loans, the process takes 10 minutes to apply and 24 hours to approve.
If you hold an ABN and you need a vehicle for your trade, we can get you sorted.

The right finance structure for tradies: chattel mortgage
Because your ute or van is a business tool, the chattel mortgage is almost certainly the right product for you.
Here’s what it means for you in plain terms:
You own the vehicle from day one. Your name is on the rego from settlement — it’s not a lease, you’re not hiring it. It’s yours.
You claim the GST back. If your business is registered for GST, you can claim the GST on the full purchase price on your next BAS. On a $66,000 ute, that’s $6,000 back in your account within weeks of settlement.
Your repayments are tax deductible. The interest component of every repayment is a legitimate business expense — you deduct it at tax time. Talk to your accountant about the depreciation benefits too.
Balloon payment available. Reduce your monthly repayments by deferring a portion to the end of the loan term. Good for cash flow, especially if your income is seasonal or project-based.
We understand how tradies work
Most lenders don’t. They see irregular income and assume risk. They see unlodged tax returns and slam the door. They don’t understand that a booked-out plumber or sparky earning $200k a year might have a tax return that’s twelve months behind — and that it doesn’t matter, because the work is there and the income is real.
CarFund has been working exclusively with self-employed borrowers for over 20 years. We work with lenders like Macquarie Bank and Capital Finance who assess tradie applications on their merits — ABN history, asset position, credit profile — not on whether your accountant has filed your return yet.
We also understand that tradies are busy. Our process is designed to be fast, simple, and done by phone if that suits you better. Call us between jobs and we’ll take the application over the phone in 10 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get a tradie car loan if my tax returns aren’t done?
Yes. CarFund does not require tax returns for vehicle finance under $150,000. Unlodged returns are one of the most common situations we deal with for self-employed tradespeople.
Can I finance a second-hand ute or van?
Yes — new or used, dealer or private sale. The vehicle is assessed on its condition and value, not whether it’s new.
Do I need to have been in business for a certain amount of time?
No minimum, though a longer ABN history strengthens your application. We work with newer ABN holders depending on their overall profile.
Can I finance the ute body/tray separately?
Aftermarket tray bodies, toolboxes and accessories are often bundled into the vehicle finance. Larger trailer or equipment purchases are arranged separately through our equipment finance facility.
I work cash-in-hand some of the time — does that matter?
We don’t ask you to document cash income. Your ABN and overall profile are what we work from, not a line-by-line breakdown of how you invoice.
Does a quote affect my credit score?
No. Getting a quote is completely free and has zero impact on your credit file.
