Who We Finance in NSW
NSW has the largest self-employed population in the country, and the mix is broad. We regularly arrange finance for:
- Sydney trades and construction — electricians, plumbers, carpenters and site supervisors buying utes and vans, particularly around the Western Sydney growth corridors
- Transport and logistics operators — owner-drivers running out of Eastern Creek, Prestons and the Port Botany precinct
- Hunter and Illawarra contractors — mining services, civil and industrial maintenance businesses around Newcastle and Wollongong
- Regional agriculture — croppers and graziers across the Riverina, Central West and New England
- Professional services — consultants, agents and healthcare practitioners running through their own ABN
If you hold an ABN and the vehicle is for business use, we can almost certainly help.
What Makes a NSW Car Purchase Different
The lending is national, but three NSW-specific costs affect what you actually need to borrow. Build these into your budget before you settle on a loan amount.
CTP Green Slip
NSW is the only state that runs compulsory third party insurance as a separate, privately underwritten product — the Green Slip. You buy it from an insurer before you can register the vehicle, and prices vary meaningfully between insurers for the identical vehicle. It is worth comparing on the SIRA Green Slip price comparison site rather than defaulting to whoever your broker suggests.
Motor vehicle stamp duty
NSW charges stamp duty on the dutiable value of the vehicle at registration or transfer, calculated on a tiered scale with a higher rate applying above a set threshold. Electric and some low-emission vehicles have had concessional treatment at various points. Rates and thresholds change, so confirm the current figures with Revenue NSW before you commit.
Registration and inspection
Vehicles over a certain age require a safety inspection (pink slip) before registration renewal. Registration itself is weight-based for light vehicles, so a heavy dual-cab ute costs more to register than a passenger sedan of the same price.
Why this matters for finance: these are on-road costs, and lenders will generally finance them as part of the total amount if you ask up front. It is far easier to include them at application than to find the cash separately at settlement.
How a Low Doc Car Loan Works in NSW
Low doc finance replaces tax returns with other evidence that your business is trading.
What you need:
- An active ABN — 12 months or more is ideal, though some lenders will consider 6 months
- Reasonable credit history
- Business bank statements or BAS, typically covering 3 to 6 months
- Details of the vehicle you intend to buy
What you don’t need:
- Personal tax returns
- Business tax returns
- Profit and loss statements
- An accountant’s letter
For loans under $150,000 the process is effectively no doc for most applicants. Above that, some income verification usually becomes part of the assessment.
Property Owners: The No Doc Option
If you own property in NSW — and given Sydney values, many self-employed borrowers do — you may qualify for a genuine no doc car loan. Equity in residential property gives lenders a security position that removes the need for income documentation entirely.
This is the fastest route to approval we offer. Many NSW property owners are pre-approved the same day.
Non-property owners are not excluded. There are low doc options that do not require property, though the documentation requirements are slightly higher and rates are typically a little above the property-backed tier.
Vehicles We Finance in NSW
- Utes and dual cabs — HiLux, Ranger, D-MAX, Triton, Amarok
- Vans — Transit, Sprinter, HiAce, Transporter
- Passenger vehicles and SUVs used for business
- Light trucks and tippers
- Trailers, plant and attachments
We finance from dealers, private sellers, auctions and online marketplaces. Private sales are common in regional NSW and we handle them routinely, including the vehicle checks and payment to the seller.
Loan Structures for NSW Businesses
Chattel mortgage
The most common structure for ABN holders. You own the vehicle from day one and the lender holds a mortgage over it. If you are registered for GST, you can generally claim the GST on the purchase price in your next BAS, and depreciation and interest are typically deductible to the extent of business use.
Finance lease
The lender owns the vehicle and leases it to you. Lease payments are usually deductible. Useful for businesses that prefer to keep the asset off their own balance sheet.
Commercial hire purchase
You take possession immediately and take ownership after the final payment. Less common now than chattel mortgage, but still suits some structures.
Your accountant is the right person to confirm which structure suits your circumstances — the tax treatment depends on your business, not on the vehicle.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be in Sydney to apply?
No. We arrange finance across all of NSW, including regional and remote areas, and the whole process runs by phone and email.
How long does approval take?
Most applications are pre-approved within 24 hours. Property-backed applications are often same day.
Can I get finance with a short ABN history?
Often, yes. Twelve months is the comfortable threshold, but we have lenders who consider ABNs from six months, particularly where you have industry experience or property security.
What if I have a default on my credit file?
It depends on the size, age and type. Paid defaults from several years ago are frequently workable. Talk to us rather than assuming you will be declined.
Can I include on-road costs in the loan?
Yes, and in NSW you should — Green Slip, stamp duty and registration add up. Tell us at application so we structure the amount correctly.
