Low Doc Car Loan — Fast Approval for ABN Holders
No tax returns required. Approval in 24 hours.
CarFund arranges low doc car loans exclusively for self-employed Australians and ABN holders. With over 20 years experience and access to specialist lenders including Angle Finance, Pepper Asset Finance and Metro Finance, we know how to get deals approved fast — without the paperwork banks demand.
What Is a Low Doc Car Loan?
A low doc (low documentation) car loan is designed for self-employed borrowers who can’t provide standard payslips or two years of tax returns. Instead the lender just relies on the length of ABN registration as a minimum and various other factors like GST or no GST, property or non property owner ect.
At CarFund, we do not require tax returns.
Who Qualifies for a Low Doc Car Loan?
Low doc car loans are available to any ABN holder using the vehicle primarily for business. This includes:
- Sole traders and contractors
- Tradespeople — builders, plumbers, electricians, carpenters
- Owner-operators in transport and logistics
- Real estate agents and mortgage brokers
- Farmers and agricultural business owners
- Small business owners across any industry
What Documents Do You Need?
For most applications you’ll need:
- Proof of identity (driver’s licence and sometimes Medicare card)
- Your ABN (we verify directly with the Australian Business Register)
No tax returns. No payslips. No profit and loss statements.
Low Doc Car Loan vs. Standard Car Loan
| Low Doc Car Loan | Standard Car Loan | |
|---|---|---|
| Tax returns | Not required | Usually 2 years required |
| Suited to | Self-employed / ABN holders | PAYG employees |
| Approval time | 24 hours | 3–7 days |
| Finance structures | Usually a Chattel mortgage | Personal loan, secured car loan |
| Deposit required | None for Property owners, sometimes zero for non property holders | Often yes |
Low Doc vs. No Doc: What’s the Difference?
The terms are often used interchangeably, but there’s a technical distinction. A low doc loan requires some documentation — typically a signed income declaration or BAS statements. A no doc loan requires virtually no income verification at all, relying instead on asset security and your overall borrower profile. At CarFund, most applications under $150,000 proceed on a low doc or no doc basis depending on your situation.
Chattel Mortgage — the Most Popular Low Doc Option
If you’re self-employed and financing a vehicle for business use, a chattel mortgage is almost certainly the right structure. The lender advances the full purchase price, the vehicle is registered in your name immediately, and the lender holds a security interest over it until the loan is repaid.
- GST on the purchase price is claimable immediately at settlement (if GST-registered)
- Interest repayments are fully tax deductible as a business expense
- Depreciation on the vehicle can be claimed based on business use
- A balloon payment option reduces monthly repayments and preserves cash flow
- No kilometre restrictions — unlike a lease, you own the vehicle outright
We recommend discussing the specifics with your accountant, but CarFund can walk you through the structure before you apply. Learn more about chattel mortgages →
Common Mistakes ABN Holders Make When Applying
After 20+ years in this space, we see the same mistakes come up repeatedly. Avoiding these gives your application the strongest possible chance of fast approval.
- Applying through a bank first. Banks assess self-employed borrowers through a PAYG lens and default to requiring full financial documentation. A declined bank application also leaves a mark on your credit file. Come to a specialist first.
- Not having an active ABN. Your ABN must be current and registered. If it has lapsed, reinstate it before applying.
- Buying a vehicle before confirming finance. Always get a pre-approval or at minimum a quote first — this prevents overspending and avoids losing a deposit if finance falls through.
- Underestimating business use. A chattel mortgage requires the vehicle to be used predominantly for business. If your business use is below 50%, a different structure may be right — we’ll help you work that out.
- Not asking about balloon payments. A balloon payment at the end of the term can significantly reduce your monthly repayments. Ask about this when you get your quote.

What Our Clients Say
“Shaun got me a truck loan when no one else could. He was super helpful and patient, and exhausted every option to find me a positive outcome. Highly recommended if you want minimal fuss and prompt service.”
“This is the third business vehicle we financed with Shaun. He does most of the lifting and shifting on your behalf and makes it very transactional and simple. In all three cars, Shaun was so efficient we were generally waiting on the dealership — not on finance.”
“I was in a tricky situation — self employed, no current financials, with some personal issues. My previous car had just blown its engine. Shaun got it across the line so I could buy a replacement car. I can’t thank Shaun and CarFund enough.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get a low doc car loan with a brand new ABN?
Sometimes. CarFund has some solutions for new businesses and fresh ABN holders. Contact us to discuss your situation before applying.
Do I need a deposit?
Property owners typically require no deposit. Non-property owners may need a deposit depending on their overall profile — assessed case by case.
Can I finance a used vehicle?
Yes. We arrange finance for new and used vehicles purchased from dealers, private sellers, or at auction.
Will applying affect my credit score?
Getting a quote does not impact your credit score. A formal credit check is only run once you proceed with a full application.
What is the maximum loan amount?
CarFund arranges low doc car finance from $10,000 up to $500,000.
What is a chattel mortgage?
A chattel mortgage is the most popular finance structure for self-employed Australians. The lender funds the full purchase price and you register the vehicle in your name immediately. Key benefits: instant GST claim, tax-deductible interest, and depreciation claims. Learn more about chattel mortgages →
Can I get a low doc car loan with bad credit?
Minor defaults or limited credit history are often manageable, particularly with strong assets or a solid ABN history. Contact us for an honest assessment before any formal credit check is run.
How long does my ABN need to be registered?
There’s no strict minimum at CarFund, though a longer ABN history strengthens your application. We work with ABN holders at all stages, including relatively new businesses.
What’s the maximum loan term?
Loan terms are typically 1–7 years. A longer term reduces monthly repayments; a balloon payment can reduce them further while keeping the term shorter.
